The City of Warren is once again denying the free speech rights of its atheist community by shutting down “all table displays” on Thursday, May 5th, during the national “day of prayer”. As readers may recall, MI Atheists own Doug Marshall won the right to put up a “reason station” in the city’s atrium, just outside the library, as an alternative to a “prayer station” run by a local church. Since his court victory, he and his group of volunteers have manned the station every Tuesday and Thursday, making May 5th the first time the station will not be present when scheduled. The city made its last-minute decision early Wednesday morning, May the 4th, in an obvious effort to silence the secular community of Warren. Thus far, there has been no word from Doug Marshall or the FFRF (Freedom From Religion Foundation), his main financial supporter for his initial victory, as to what actions, if any, might be taken.
Warren residents and concerned secular Michiganians should contact the office of Mayor James Fouts at (586) 574-4520, or email to email@example.com. You can also contact members of the City Council by visiting this page:
When contacting any of the above, remember to be polite and courteous, yet clear and firm in your stand against Warren’s unconstitutional support of religion with taxpayer dollars.
